Supporting the arts... and the art of hospitality

THE opening party for Chen Cheng-Hsiung’s 60-year retrospective exhibition, an event co-hosted by Shanghai Daily, was held in the Executive Lounge of Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai on October 29.

More than 100 people from the finance industry, chamber members and art collectors attended the party.

The retrospective at China Art Museum features paintings created by Chen from 1953-2013. More than 70 works were shown over several weeks. Chen spoke with ICS reporters about his career, saying abstract paintings reveal the invisible inner world to others.

Henk Meyknecht, general manager of Grand Kempinski Hotel Shanghai, shared a speech with guests.

“Artistry is important to us at Kempinski and we believe that culture defines and expresses different societies and civilisations. Throughout its long history, Kempinski has promoted the arts in Europe and beyond. The themes of art, culture and travel are at the heart of the Kempinski Young Artist Programme. Each year, Kempinski awards fellowships to four young people working in the field of classical music and the visual arts. This hand-on help, based on merit and need, is given for study and exhibition outside the recipient’s native country.”
