I think the Rio Olympics and Paralympics are a great occasion for us to watch top athletes from all over the world. It will also be a celebration of Brazilian dance, music, food and cultural festivals. Brazilians are very friendly and will welcome with open arms every athlete, fan and tourist.

I will watch the Games in Shanghai, on TV and on mobile phone. The opening ceremony is definitely a must-see, featuring award-winning film, theater and choreography directors.

I am also interested in the table tennis match, after Brazilian Hugo Calderano set a record by defeating four-time Olympic medalist Wang Liqin of China by 3:1 on July 10.

Rio is indeed one of the most beautiful cities in the world — it offers amazing outdoor activities and a great mix of nature and urban development. Rio is known for lush forests, great beaches and friendly people.

Known for the annual Carnival, Cariocas, as Rio residents call themselves, can’t wait to show the whole world their passion for life. It will not just be an event — it will be THE event in the city, and Rio is ready to deliver an unforgettable show.

It is true that Brazil is currently going through some stormy political and economic problems, but nothing will take away the happiness and enthusiasm of the Cariocas and I, along with all of the Brazilian community in Shanghai, are eager to share our unique culture with people from every corner of the planet.

I will proudly wear my green-and-yellow jersey to celebrate every game. There will be, for sure, many events in town hosted by popular sports bars and I just need to be sure to stay awake until late in the evening to keep up with our very big time difference!

Despite the current difficulties due to the economic and political crisis Brazil is facing, we are all proud of hosting what is probably the biggest celebration among all nations.

Having lived in China since 2005, a country that has recently become a world leader in many Olympic sports, I am especially happy to see this as an opportunity for many Chinese to learn more about Brazil, enhancing even further the friendly relationship that unites us.

I still haven’t decided whether to go back to Brazil to watch the Olympics, because this is the first time that Brazil has hosted the Games.

Hopefully the Olympics in Rio can help Brazil get out of its longest economy recession since the 1930s.
