How often do you travel? At least 5 or 6 times a year.
Objective of travel: Most of the time business. Very often it is to experience new hotels or new food and beverage concepts.
Favorite traveling style: Airplane
When I finish a journey, I always... look back and remember the good experiences.
How many destinations have you already been?
Can’t say. A few hundred over the years including all continents.
What does traveling mean to you?
New experiences, different cultures, new people, and exiting food.
Do you prefer to travel alone or with family/friends? Both.
Q: What kind of hotel will you choose to stay during a trip?
A: It depends, if it is a business trip I will choose a hotel next to the business or meeting locations. If it is private, I will choose something with a nice view and recreation facilities such as spa, pool, garden and a good bar.
Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel?
A: Cleanliness, nice room with a nice view, comfortable bed, and good food & service, free Wifi.
Q: What facility or service do you think is necessary?
A: A good bar is always necessary, even better with a cigar lounge.
Q: How do you book a hotel with an affordable room rate?
A: As a hotelier we know where and how to book the best rate, most of the time we know someone and get a upgrade if available.
Q: Share with us an unforgettable stay in a hotel.
A: Hotel Daios Cove in Crete, Greece. It was a family vacation on the day of departure coming to the airport (more than 1 hour hotel-airport). We were told the flight had been postponed from 10am to 10pm, the hotel shuttle drove us back to the hotel. Upon arriving we were given two rooms (one for our sons and one for us) with VIP setup complimentary including dinner. We ended up having an extra day on our vacation. That was an outstanding guest service experience.
Q: What hotels are you looking forward to staying at in the future?
A: There are so many great hotels in the world so I’m just looking forward to my next trip. But there will be a new hotel built in Macau with a room rate of 70,000 yuan per night. I was told the ceiling of the presidential suite is the swimming pool on the roof.
Q: Which city would you like to visit?
A: The city I’d like to go is Lijiang, in Yunnan Province.
Q: What’s so special about it?
A: It’s so different from other cities and still so full of Chinese tradition. It’s like time is moving a bit slower there than anywhere else in China.
Q: What do you have to take when going to Lijiang?
A: Comfortable walking shoes.
Q: What do you do upon arriving in Lijiang?
A: Sit on the patio of my hotel room at the INDIGO Hotel, which is very nice and the service is excellent.
Q: What places do you recommend in Lijiang?
A: On my last visit I saw the Naxi show on the mountain. Also went up Jade Mountain, which is 4,506 meters high. Lijiang Ancient Town Pedestrian street is good. Go during the day when it is very quiet and choose a restaurant for the evening.
Q: What local specialties do you like?
A: You have to try the yak hot pot.
Q: Share with us an unforgettable experience during your trip in Lijiang?
A: An unforgettable experience was meeting Dr Ho in Baisha village. He is a TCM doctor who treats patients from around the world. I think he has cured patients with difficult to treat diseases.
Many newspapers in the world have written about him. You meet him in a room and you don’t know whether it’s a store or an office for a newspaper editor. It’s just something you have not seen before in connection with medicine. But he is a real personality and something you should not miss if you are interested in people.
I will never forget meeting Dr Ho in Baisha.
