Fashion designer’s star is rising quickly

CHINESE designer Yang Fang graduated from ESMOD Paris in 2006 and founded by Fang in France in 2008. Her “origami” signature grabbed attention from buyers all over the world. Distribution started quickly, notably in Japan, France and the USA. Fang later established her design studio and showroom in the heart of Shanghai. She is truly a rising international fashion star.

My personal style is wearing timeless elegance with a bit of a twist, classy but not boring, charming but not extravagant, feminine but strong. Like Audrey Hepburn said: “The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.”

I usually shop at Marais in the heart of Paris. It is close to where I live and one of the best strolls you can have when you visit the city, from Place des Vosges to Musee Picasso ... from all the surprising independent designer shops to the most famous contemporary art galleries. You never know if you will end up buying a designer piece or an art piece.

I have no limit myself to changing silhouettes, details, proportions when making a piece. The end result can be so different from my initial sketch. I indeed enjoy the spontaneity of creativity. It must be a real freedom, exciting and full of surprise.

My all-time favorite artists are Anish Kapoor, Jean Tinguely and Huang Yong Ping.

My last wardrobe addition is a black leather bag from Kris Xu. It’s the new coming bag designer in China. I love her work. It’s so contemporary and conceptual.

The next fashion purchase is maybe a pair of shoes as I do not need to buy any clothes. I will definitely go for a pair of Guiseppe Zanotti. It’s so sexy.

I want to visit Morocco. My husband spent two years there and when discussing our next trips he cannot stop telling me how beautiful it is and how welcoming people are. Otherwise, South America is also clearly on my list. I like how crazy this place is supposed to be.

My most memorable destination is Etretat in Normandy, France. I just went there for a relaxing trip after last Paris fashion week and I find it so beautiful. The giant cliffs are simply breathtaking, and I am not surprised the place is a meeting point for a bunch of artists. Claude Monet painted a few amazing pieces looking at the sunset.

My favorite fashion designer is Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz. His elegant, spontaneous silhouettes always amaze me. And of course Alexander McQueen, the dark romance. It’s powerful.

The last book I read is “Infinite Dao,” an inspiring book by Patrick A. Kelly, a tai chi master from New Zealand who spent his early 30s years following a Taiwanese master.

Patrick Jiang is founder of Dara, a lifestyle lounge and executive club in Beijing’s 798 art district. An interior designer himself, Jiang had used his talents to mix and match the designer artworks, soft furnishings, luxurious fabrics and subdued lighting in the two-floor lounge, creating a unique atmosphere for guests and VIPs to enjoy the dolce vita.

My personal style is fusion style, just like my design signature as an interior designer to express my creativity and individuality.

If I have to limit my Beijing shopping to one place, it would probably be Lane Crawford. It features the international boutique brands and specializes in designer clothes, accessories and products where I could have multiple choices and the guarantee of high quality. I also have many designer friends, so their fashion studios are also my destination for shopping.

The designer I most admire is not limited. Recently I sincerely appreciate Chinese designers for their ultimate passion, and they are developing very fast.

The most interesting outfit I have is a modern Chinese tailor-made silk suit designed by myself that features a lot of creative details.

My best recent purchase was the Victor & Rolf showpiece boots.

The next fashion purchasing place will be outside China, maybe Thailand, or the States, just like an adventure.

My signature perfume is Hermes Terre due to its full-bodied aroma, perfect to use at dinner parties.

My favorite book is “The Story of the Stone.” It’s an encyclopedia of China’s most classic that has a highly ideological content and artistic greatness.

The most memorable place I’ve visited was Gaudi Apartment at Rambla de Catalunya called La Pedrera, and Jim Thompson house in Bangkok.
