Wonderful family vacation ideas to make for a truly unforgettable summer

HONG Kong (China)

Charm, cultural diversity and a cosmopolitan lifestyle are at the very core of Hong Kong’s attractions. With high-end shopping malls, beautiful Victoria Harbor, numerous fine restaurants and food stalls, Hong Kong attracts visitors from all over the world.

There are also unspoiled natural areas, nice beaches and spectacular scenery.

For a family trip, it’s hard to beat Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Ocean Park provides an exciting mix of entertainment, education and conservation facilities.

Disneyland, opened in 2005, is the first Disney theme park in China. Children love interacting with famous Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck and Buzz Lightyear.

Visitors can enjoy the high-quality rides and watch amazing Broadway-style shows in seven zones.

Mystic Point is home to Mystic Manor, the home and private museum of eccentric explorer and adventurer Lord Henry Mystic. Unlock the mysteries of his collection and discover for yourself what is real or not.

Adventures from the gold rush town known as Grizzly Gulch recreate the American Wild West from the 19th century.

Toy Story Land is based on the idea that you have been shrunk to the size of a toy. Join Woody, Jessie, Rex, Slinky, and, of course, Buzz from the “Toy Story” films for playtime in Andy’s backyard.

Last but not least, don’t forget to take a stroll along the quaint Main Street, USA. This turn-of-the-20th century American town serves up a variety of souvenirs and food.

Tokyo (Japan)

Disney’s first amusement park in Asia was Tokyo Disneyland Resort in Japan. From 1994 to 1999, it attracted more visitors than Disneyland in the United States.

The theme park has recently started the new attraction “Once Upon a Time” using projection mapping. Images of Disney characters are projected on the Cinderella castle. Souvenirs from Tokyo Disneyland are widely regarded as the most delicate and carefully designed in the world. Candies, balloons, T-shirts and dresses with famous cartoons characters will put a smile on your kid’s face.

In 2001, Tokyo DisneySea opened at the amusement park. DisneySea has seven themed areas or “ports of call.” They range from Mediterranean Harbor and American Waterfront to Lost River Delta and Mysterious Island.

Japan can be extremely hot and humid during the summer. If so, check out a beer garden, catch a J-league baseball game at Tokyo Dome, get wet and wild at some water parks, or head to a beach.

Guilin (China)

The popular Chinese saying “Guilin shanshui jia tianxia” means “Guilin’s mountain and water scenery is the best under heaven.” This UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its karst hills. Millions of tourists visit the city every year.

Explore the beauty of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region with a cruise along the Li River and tour the Longji rice terraces. A modern sculpture park shows off pieces made by more than 150 internationally renowned artists.

Children in this age range are like sponges. They absorb so much and so quickly. They can pick up new skills and are usually open-minded. This is a great time to introduce them to sports and other hobbies.

Club Med Guilin is designed with active kids in mind. It is in a 46-hectare park surrounded by 50 beautiful mountain peaks. Children from two up to 10 years old are keep busy by a professional G.O. team while parents can pursue their own activities.

Cherating Beach (Malaysia)

Cherating Beach is perched on the east coast of Malaysia like a tropical Garden of Eden.

It is the perfect antidote to frantic city life, and is one of the most sought after coastal beaches in Peninsular Malaysia.

The main attraction here is definitely the wide gently sloping sandy beaches. Water activities including yachting, surfing, swimming are available from both guesthouses and hotels.

Club Med Cherating, the first Club Med in Asia, is in an exceptional natural setting between the jungle and the South China Sea.

Children can have an action-packed adventure at the 80-hectare resort and try activities like archery, kayaking, flying trapeze, tennis and sailing.

Cherating Turtle Sanctuary is located just beside the resort. This center was established in 1972 as a turtle hatchery in an effort to protect the endangered species, in particular the leatherback sea turtle.

 Taking a cruise may be just the thing for a family to enjoy some luxury while also exploring exotic destinations. Fine restaurants and cafes, swimming pools, fancy parties and more are part of life on the high sea. And be sure to bring a swimming suit as every cruise ship has at least one pool.

Domestic line: Yangtze River (China)

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia and the third longest in the world. It originates from the Kunlun Mountains in Qinghai. Covering a distance of 6,280 kilometers, it is considered a cradle of ancient Chinese civilization. The most impressive section is the Three Gorges between Chongqing and Wuhan.

Overseas line: Seoul/Jeju Island (South Korea)

Energetically modern and satisfyingly traditional, Seoul is one of Asia’s great cities. It is also popular among Chinese people, especially those who love Korean TV series, pop singers and film stars.

Jeju island was created entirely from volcanic eruptions approximately 2 million years ago. Jeju’s natural environment has been preserved as best as possible. The fantastically shaped rocks decorating the seashores, the hundreds of Oreums (secondary volcanos) and the rarest species of flora and fauna around the Baengnokdam lake are all treasures waiting to be discovered by visitors.
