‘Spooktacular’ night enjoyed at Marriott Parkview party
“Witch’s fingers,” dark chocolate “bats,” “spiders,” “cockroaches” ... Halloween parties might be the only occasion that people can enjoy those “scary” foods.
The Halloween Shake and Bubbles party held on October 30 at Shanghai Marriott Hotel Parkview was the first one at this venue, although there are regular monthly themed events by the hotel brand that has 22 properties in Shanghai.
“It was lucky to meet this Western traditional festival for our first time to hold the Shake and Bubbles party,” said Ricky Lam, general manager of the hotel.
Newly opened in February this year on Guangzhong Road W. in Zhabei District next to the Multimedia Valley, the 317-room hotel features MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) facilities and brings good service. The impressive 2,800 square meters of meeting space is conveniently located on one floor.
The larger one of the hotel’s two pillar-free ballrooms measures 1,400 square meters and features two state-of-the-art 65-square-meter LED screens, while the other measures 1,000 square meters and provides one LED screen. Five flexible function rooms are perfect for small to medium-sized sophisticated corporate events. The hotel’s dedicated wedding-planning services coupled with its panoramic views across Shanghai’s biggest downtown parkland makes it the ideal location for a city wedding.
The Halloween event was held in the party room on the second floor, and around 80 VIP clients were invited. Face paintings and dressed-up clients brought the hotel an extremely festive atmosphere.
For those without costumes, masks and hair dresses on the receptionist table could help them feel involved in the party. Pumpkin carving and mask painting were traditional activities at the party.
Ismail Gerger, the hotel’s executive chef from Turkey, led his team of 150 people to design and prepare the food and beverages. Besides the regular finger foods like mini hamburgers and pumpkin pies, the chef combined his creative ideas and excellent cooking skills to create Halloween elements.
“Good-looking, interesting, ‘scary’ and also delicious — I wanted the clients at this party to enjoy the food we prepared especially for Halloween,” the chef told Shanghai Daily. “Pumpkin and Brie cheese were important elements in today’s recipe.”
The chef has been in Shanghai for one and a half years, working previously at the Marriott Hongqiao. He loves this metropolitan city and enjoys his work.
Chocolate brownie “graves,” white chocolate “skeletons,” warm Brie jack-o’-lanterns with apple and crackers, chilled jack-o’-lantern smoothies, Halloween “RIP” sandwiches and dough-made crispy “bones” attracted clients to the well-decorated and tasty foods.
The exciting Halloween atmosphere also included rock “n” roll music, beer and soft drinks.
