Voices carry into Shanghai, Naturally

NATURALLY 7, an a cappella group from the United States known for their distinct style and sound, is coming to Shanghai this summer.

The group says they are all about celebrating the beauty of the human voice. While singing is a big part of what they do, they also create the sounds of musical instruments like drums, bass, guitar and flute with their voices.

The front man of the group, Roger Thomas, says people really do want to hear the essence of a song and the person’s voice, thus his group is giving something different to audiences.

Naturally 7’s aural magic glistens on what Thomas called “hybrids,” taking the essence of a well-known song and putting their own melodies and lyrics on top, like “Fix You,” a song originally by Coldplay. Naturally 7 turned it into another song and received support after posting it on Yahoo.

Formed in 1999, Naturally 7 rose to prominence in 2007. A video of the group on a Paris subway singing Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight” went viral on YouTube. They have since headlined the Playboy Jazz Festival, played in London’s Royal Albert Hall, performed at the BET Honors for Herbie Hancock and sang at Quincy Jones’ 75th birthday party in Montreux, Swizterland.
