First dance season at City Theater

AUDIENCES will be treated to an exciting range of spectacular dance performances during Shanghai City Theater’s first ever dance season.

The upcoming shows include “Tap Factory,” original Chinese dance dramas “Opera Warriors” and “Forbidden Fruit Under the Great Wall,” 3D dance poem “Dong,” ballet classic “Swan Lake” and the modern “Ballet Austin Ballet Gala.”

Ever since its debut in Portugal in 2012, “Tap Factory” has stunned audiences with its humor, passion and artistry. The show combines the percussion of “Stomp” with the Vaudevillian appeal of tap dance, jazz, hip-hop and acrobatics.

Chinese dance drama “Opera Warriors” is a crossover production featuring dance and traditional Chinese theater, with a story focused on the lives and careers of a troupe of opera performers.

Dance poem “Dong” is presented with 3D images projected onto the backdrop. Created by famous choreographer Zhang Jigang, the show is about the relationship between Man and nature.

Another work by Zhang, “Forbidden Fruit Under the Great Wall,” is a romantic dance drama about a couple in north China’s Shanxi Province.

Perennial ballet pleaser “Swan Lake” and the modern “Ballet Austin Ballet Gala” will present the many varied charms of the ballet arts.

Over the coming months, there will also be lectures and dance classes with performers in the season’s shows.
