Exhibition reflects charms of Silk Road

SILK Road is the theme of an ongoing exhibition at Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute until October 16.

Upon entering the museum, viewers are amazed by dozens of umbrellas dangling from the ceiling and colorful ethnic costumes and artworks from people living along the Silk Road.

The exhibition occupies two floors. The first floor displays some 40 canvases and silk paintings created by 27 artists from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Uzbekistan. Also on display are ceramics, bags, scarves and umbrellas used by people in Silk Road countries.

The second floor presents the paintings of Xie Zhen’ou who spent over 30 years to portray exotic landscapes and Buddhist grottoes along the Silk Road. His works offer a glimpse of interaction between different cultures.

“To show the charms of the Silk Road, we tried something new in designing the exhibition. It is a pity though that these artworks are not for sale. I heard many visitors expressing their regrets.”

Date: Through October 16, 10am-4pm

Address: 111 Jinzhu Rd
