Anting Hub hosts innovative stage show

Mixed-media stage show “Looking for Courage” is coming to Life Hub@Anting, a multi-function shopping, entertainment, residential and business center in Jiading District.

It is the work of Danish producer Lousie Beck and Chinese artists Feng Jiangzhou and Qiu Zhijie.

The show focuses on a Chinese woman who immigrated to Europe in her 20s. After two decades in her new home she embraces a European lifestyle, but her life in China comes rushing back though when she discovers a series of old photographs.

The highly-improvisational show features a cast of 20 actors, two singers and one dancer. Audience members can interact with the show via WeChat, which they can use to create new dialogue for the performers on stage.

“Art no longer exists just in a museum or a theater. Audience members can get involved in the art as it’s being created,” explained Feng, a multi-media artist and musician.

“Looking for Courage” was initially conceived during a workshop in Beijing in 2014, but later premiered at the Copenhagen International Theater Festival. The performances at Life Hub@Anting in October will mark the show’s first public stagings in China.

This is also the third year that Life Hub@Anting has hosted such a performance at its commercial venue.
