Visit to migrant school proved to be eventful experience

LED by Ms Coong, a group of students from primary and secondary, visited the Xiu Long Migrant School for the Giving Tree ceremony. We met at the school to pack 600 bags and filled them with jackets, stationaries, water bottles, books and toys. We then loaded them into the buses.

At the Xiu Long Migrant School, we were welcomed by a group of students who readily helped us retrieve the bags out of the bus. They were then distributed in various classrooms. Their warm welcome and the bubbling excitement made it all worthwhile.

After the ceremony, the children from the Xiu Long Migrant School were finally allowed to open their bags in their classrooms. Once all the bags were distributed to the children, they were asked to open them together.

Smiles spread across their faces and words of thanks were called out. Many toys were unpacked from their boxes, Lego was assembled and Barbie’s were unwrapped and saved from their boxes. We went round talking to the children, asking what they thought of their gifts — it is in moments like these where I am thankful to have had the opportunity to learn Mandarin, as I could communicate with the children and was able to really be appreciate what was happening.

Taking part in the Giving Tree ceremony was an eventful experience.
