On the lookout for real world experience

Graduation is when the senior class can come together and celebrate their achievements during the past 12 years of education. Graduation to me is the end of a chapter in life, but the beginning of another. During graduation, we, the students, appreciate the hard work our teachers and parents have put in to best prepare us for our next stage in life, whether that is going to college or taking a gap year. Family and friends come together to acknowledge our achievements and to celebrate our transition to adulthood. It is also a time for us to reflect on the hard work and effort we made at school to meet our various academic and other personal goals. Graduation is a ceremony of thankfulness, gratefulness, and paying respect. As graduates of high school we learn to take full responsibility for our actions and become independent adults.

Nevertheless, few high school graduates have much real world experience in terms of work and living independently. But that is what the following stage in our life will be about. During summer vacation, students can apply the useful knowledge they learned in high school and gain some real world experiences, hence better prepare us for upcoming challenges. No matter what our plans are for next year, a great learning opportunity is to do an internship or get some work experience in an area of our interest. For me, the best learning experience is to travel to new places and experience unfamiliar cultures. In my own experience, I have found this to be the most effective way to become an open-minded and well-rounded individual.

Personally, I am certainly looking forward to graduating from high school. I think the best part about graduating will be to celebrate with my friends and family the achievement of successfully completing the IB diploma. I am delighted to be recognized and celebrated for all the hard work and effort I have put in throughout my school “career.” However the sad part about graduating will be to move away from my friends and family and onto the next chapter in my life. I will hopefully be going on to study medicine in England next year, which is something I am thrilled about and this is definitely something worth celebrating during graduation.

Hopefully, all fellow high school graduates also feel ready to deal with the new challenges ahead next year. Best of luck to all seniors and happy graduation!
