OPEN-MINDED approach is key to education

Teaching and learning is a long-term plan and scores are not the only method of assessment.

I have experienced both Chinese education and Western school education and when I was a student, I tried my best to achieve academic performance through healthy competition. However, I also found competition was limiting if there was no feedback or evaluation from the teachers. I think a competitive approach has been more or less used in many aspects, many countries. However, winning itself is not the core objective, teaching students how to handle failure and dealing with a challenging situation cannot be neglected.

In an international school, we started to analyze learning/teaching methodologies a long time ago to maximize student support to help them reach the goals.

The experiment on BBC strongly proved that being reflective and open-minded are crucial elements in teaching. We need to learn responsibility instead of obedience, respect instead of fear and embrace differences and learn from each other.
