Hard work and achievements prepare grads for next step

WE come to the end of another chapter. A turning point in your lives but for us a further validation of the successful education model that we believe and excel in. You, our third cohort of IB students graduating, are also predicted to achieve at least 5 points above the world average as all of our previous years have so successfully accomplished and stand heads held high with the best students in the world.

We have seen you change from cheeky, young individuals into gracious and confident young adults. We, like your very proud parents, have admired the way you have coped with change and the demands of one of the world’s most academic courses but we have also at times been in awe of how you have stepped up to the challenges of being within our community, proactively organizing events, being an older inspiration for our younger students and always achieving this with a good sense of humor.

We see your graduation as a culmination of all of your hard work, your teachers’ dedication and your parents’ resilience to the emotional challenges you have faced. We are proud of your achievements to this moment but we will also be proud of your successes to come; of this we have no doubt. You will build upon the altruism you displayed in all of your charitable endeavors through this school, the public performances you have organized or been apart of and the opportunities to voice your opinions not just in lessons and assemblies but in competitions all around the globe.

Never be afraid of the challenges that will be asked of you. Take a deep breath and step forward. You have the knowledge, maturity and personalities to equip you for any demands that you will face but also know that you are supported invisibly by all those who wish you so many good things for your future.

An SUIS-Gubei student today, a leader tomorrow.

Selena Dumble is vice principal of Shanghai United International School, Gubei Secondary campus.
