Umbria Festival’s jazz stars for May Day

AS part of the annual JZ Spring jazz festival, jazz musicians and bands from the Umbria Jazz Festival like Danilo Rea, Fabrizio Bosso Quartet and Funk Off will be performing today and tomorrow at the Reel Plaza.

The legendary Umbria Jazz Festival was founded by Carlo Pagnotta in 1973 and is held every July in Perugia, the capital city of Italy’s Umbria region, with tens of thousands of jazz music lovers.

Rea is an Italian jazz pianist who has collaborated with leading jazz musicians including Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, John Scofield and Joe Lovano. Rea is known for his improvised performances. In addition to jazz, he also studies progressive music.

Funk Off is an Italian jazz band brought together by saxophonist Dario Cecchini. The band has played over 400 street and plaza festivals, including Umbria Jazz Festival and Montreux Jazz Festival.

Fabrizio Bosso Quartet is one of Italy’s top jazz ensembles led by trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso, who started playing at the age of five. Bosso is recognized as one of the most technically impressive jazz trumpeters in the world and has collaborated with musicians like Stefano Di Battista, Paolo Fresu, Sergio Cammariere, Bob Mintzer and Tullio De Piscopo.

All performances on May 1 and 2 will be free for the public.
