Philadelphia Orchestra to perform the best of classics

THE Philadelphia Orchestra is returning to the city again after two years. Among the works it will perform are Sibelilus’s “Finlandia,” Grieg’s “Peer Gynt Suite No.1” and Bruckner’s Symphony No.4 “Romantic.”

The Shanghai concert is part of the orchestra’s tour of Asia.

Led by conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin, the Philadelphia Orchestra will also perform celebrated works of Brahms, Sibelius, Grieg, Brookner, Rachmaninoff, Rimsky Korsakov, Beethoven, Strauss, Prokofiev and Bizet.

“While touring with Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, it is most important that we present our audiences what we are especially good at,” says Nezet-Seguin, who is also the artistic director of the orchestra. “The programs we selected for our tour of Asia this time will display the achievements that the orchestra and me gained in the past four seasons.”

The Philadelphia Orchestra has a long-time relationship with China — since 1973, when it visited China along with then President Nixon. It marked the first time a well-known orchestra visited China.

The orchestra is planning more cooperation with China as part of its 5-year residency program that it signed with the National Grand Theater in 2013.
