Outdoor stage set to make its debut

TO celebrate its second anniversary, Shanghai Poly Grand Theater will present a special season from today to November, featuring 26 programs by artists from 20 countries.

The Anniversary Season covers a wide range including classic concerts, dramas, pop performances, dances and children’s theaters.

The season begins with the premiere of the Chinese-version musical “The Sound of Music” today.

The program is presented through arrangement with R&H Theatricals and Broadway Asia Company. All the well-known songs like “Edelweiss” and “Do Re Mi” will be staged in Chinese.

The theater’s outdoor stage will be used for the first time when the B&F Rock Band appear live on November 6.

The outdoor stage, surrounded by 14,000 square-meters of water, will offer audiences a new experience over the cool nights.

“There is much limitation about using the theater, especially weather. But I think it is time to finally open it to public, with careful pre-arranged plans,” says Qin Tiji, president of Shanghai Poly Grand Theater.

Other highlights also include the concert by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Boys Choir.
