Highly recommended flicks at film fest

IN addition to the Tribute to Master Godard Movie Show and the 4K Classic Movie Show, organizing committee of this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival also recommend 13 award-winning films.

‘Foxcatcher’ (USA)

Director: Bennett Miller

Starring: Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo and Vanessa Redgrave

Follow the story of Olympic wrestling champion Mark Schultz and his paranoid-schizophrenic millionaire coach John du Pont, who murdered Schultz’s brother, Olympic champion Dave Schultz in 1996.

‘Jimmy’s Hall’
(Britain/Ireland/France)

Starring: Barry Ward, Francis Magee and Aileen Henry

Jimmy is back home in the Irish countryside after 10 years of forced exile in the US. Everyone is happy except for Father Sheridan, the local priest, the village squire, and Dennis O’Keefe, the chief of the fascists. The reason is simple: Jimmy is a socialist activist.

In a Russian coastal town, Kolya is forced to fight the corrupt mayor when he is told that his house will be demolished. He recruits a lawyer friend to help, but the man’s arrival brings further misfortune for Kolya and his family.

Chasuke is in charge of making tea in heaven. He has feelings for a human woman named Yuri. He knows Yuri is condemned to die in a car accident, so Chasuke leaves heaven to save Yuri.
