The art of illusion, trickery and deception
EXPECT a storm of sorcery, conjuring and hocus-pocus as magicians from all over the world cast spells at the 10th Shanghai International Magic Festival & Competition.
Magic lovers will witness performances from 11 of the world’s most celebrated magicians including French comedy magician Dani Lary, Spanish close-up artist Woody Aragon and the American mind artist Banachek.
The performances will cover a wide range of genres and styles including mind magic, close-up magic and illusion.
Jin Wei, an official with the festival’s organizing committee, revealed that it is the first time a spectacular of mind magic will be staged in China.
“Magic is an entertaining and interactive art form,” said Jin. “In addition to the competition of the professionals, we will also host magic contests among amateurs and college students.”
The festival has been developed into one of the highest-level magician competitions and showcases in Asia. Over the past few years, around 250 notable magicians have performed at the festival.
Jin added that the fest has also discovered a lot of the country’s young talented magicians. Some of them have been offered rare opportunities to perform worldwide.
In addition to performances, this year’s event will also host workshops, training camps, props exhibitions and copyright trade fairs to propel the development of the industry.
The program, which is part of this year’s Shanghai International Arts Festival, takes place from October 26 to 29 at Shanghai Center Theater and Huangpu Theater.
