Weekend concerts in the beautiful out-of-doors
The Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden is hosting its Concert on the Green Music Festival this Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are now on sale.
The performances will be on a stage set up in a grassy, open section of the park. The shows will be from 6-8pm.
The Sunday night concert will feature Mischa Maisky, a Latvian-born Israeli cellist, and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra with conductor Jonathan Nott. They will play Tchaikovsky’s “Rococo Variations,” his only cello concerto.
In addition, the German orchestra will play works by Beethoven, Dvorák and Brahms.
The weekend program also includes musical pieces such as the “Chorus of the Yellow River” and “Ode to Joy,” performed by singers Xiong Yufei, Jia Wenxuan and Yu Haolei.
Prior to the evening performances, from 2-4:30pm, musicians from Mongolia, Kazakhstan and China’s Tuwa ethnic minority will play music indigenous to their cultures.
Ten special shuttle buses are available to carry concert-goers from Dongjing Station of Metro Line 9 to the botanical park. The buses are free of charge and will operate from 3:30-5:45pm.
