Parents are concerned about safety of children
A recent survey of Songjiang parents found their major concerns are traffic safety, food quality and child trafficking.
The survey, involving 640 families in eight communities, was conducted by the Shanghai Parenting Science Center and the Songjiang District Women’s Federation.
Parents who participated in the survey all had children 12 years or younger.
The survey revealed that many parents spend time at home trying to educate their children about traffic safety, safe use of electricity, food safety, not talking to strangers and what to do if they get lost.
It also revealed that many parents aren’t observing Shanghai laws requiring that children under 12 use seat belts and not be allowed to sit in the front passenger seat of cars.
Amid reports of child-trafficking in China, about a third of respondents to the survey said they feel assured that their children fully understand the peril and how to be take precautions. The remainder said they aren’t so sure.
