Local museum shows works by two painters

Apart from having dinner with family and friends during Chinese New Year, you should also have a feast for the eye by visiting the Songjiang Art Museum where two painting exhibitions are being held.

Ma Nan, a versatile artist skilled in Chinese calligraphy, ink-and-wash painting, and seal carving, also dabbles in oil painting. His solo show, “Ancient Chinese Court Ladies,” contains 40 oil paintings of China’s fabled beauties. Women under Ma’s brushes all have a chubby face, long and narrow eyes, and small pouted lips, beautiful by the aesthetic standard of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD).

Painter-designer He Zhenghao brought about 30 oil paintings to the exhibition named “Seeing All.” His works show his reflections on the modern world. The abstract paintings impress viewers with his bold use of bright colors.

Ma Nan’s exhibition runs until February 28; He Zhenghao’s exhibition runs until February 22.
