Transformation seen for Suzhou Creek riverside area
THE Changshou commercial business district is planning on developing the riverside area along Suzhou Creek.
The 21-kilometer-long Suzhou Creek has rich business resources along its banks, officials said.
In Putuo, these include the Changfeng Ecological Business District, Zhenru Urban Sub-center and the Zhonghuan and Changshou commercial business districts as well as the science and technology center in Taopu. These mark the regional blueprint of “one creek, five zones” project.
Changshou commercial business district is adjacent to Jing’an, Changning and Zhabei districts with a total area of 5.37 square kilometers. The Global Harbor that opened last year is the largest mall in Shanghai.
Development plans
According to Li Rui, director of subdistrict office in Changshou, the future of this region will focus on building three business areas, one Suzhou Creek business, tourist and cultural developing belt as well as a headquarters street for companies in East China on Zhongshan Road N.
As planned, the new riverside development project will be in three parts.
The east side from Suzhou Creek to Changhua Road will form a fashion and creative bay based on the M50 creative park, the middle part from Changhua Road to Jiangning Road will build a cultural and tourism destination with the leisure businesses by Mengqing Park marina, while the west from Jiangning Road to Xikang Road will become an ecological residential area.
Several streets in Changshou commercial business district will also borrow experience from past successful examples from other districts and present a new image for residents and visitors.
Moganshan Road will resemble Hengshan Road and be positioned for cultural and entertainment, tourism and high-end businesses.
Lane 660 on Aomen Road will be made into another Xintiandi, keeping the old architecture.
The living conditions will be changed into a featured leisure business block that includes a museum displaying the old life in Shanghai.
Yichang Road will also have a makeover and become a cultural landmark.
Mengqing Park will become a Suzhou Creek history and cultural theme park, while Changshou Park will be a public green belt linking the streets directly.
