Robots on the rise as government backs innovation

ROBOTS welcomed guests and served water at the 2016 International Robot Test & Assessment Summit Forum at the Shanghai Putuo Global Sourcing Exhibition & Convention Center on November 2.
Organized around the theme of “Test, Assessment and Development of Robots,” the summit included separate forums on robotic testing and assessment, security and the drone industry.
In 2015, the National Robot Test and Assessment Center was set up at Shanghai Electrical Apparatus Research Institute (Group) Co Ltd.
This year, the group launched a robotic testing, assessment and certification alliance.
Authorities in Putuo District have also set up a Shanghai Intelligent Manufacturing and Robot Industry Zone with more than 20 robot-related enterprises.
To support the development of the industry, Putuo has created a special foundation with 2 billion yuan (US$294 million) and introduced 10 regulations to accelerate technological innovation in the robotics industry around the basis of 28 preferential policies to boost scientific innovation.
At the summit, officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Certification and Accreditation Administration handed out their first batch of certificates for Chinese robot products.
Putuo plans to allocate up to 10 million yuan toward robot manufacturing enterprises with annual income exceeding 10 billion yuan.
And the same amount will be awarded for newly created robot or control softwares with proprietary intellectual property rights.
Putuo also plans to open a robot exhibition and experience center.
For exhibitors, the district plans to provide rental subsidies of up to 50 percent of their investment, or a maximum of 2 million yuan.
