SHANGHAI transport authorities have begun the planning process for Metro Line 15, whose terminal will be in the Zizhu National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Minhang. When the new line opens in about five years, residents of the Wujing and Meilong areas will be able to travel to the downtown within 50 minutes, passing through the Xuhui, Changning, Putuo and Baoshan districts. Separately, construction on an extension of Metro Line 5 started recently. Starting from the present Dongchuan Road Station, the line will extend to the Fengxian District. The project will be completed in 2017.
