Jindalai Dancing Group

The Jindalai Dancing Group based in Hongqiao Town is special. Most of its members are of Korean descent and their performances, including costumes and music, are usually based on traditional dances of that country.

Luo Yingyin, a member of the group, said numbers have been growing since it was founded in 2006.

“In the beginning, we didn’t have a permanent place to practice, nor could we afford to rent costumes and props,” she said. “We moved from one place to the next and sewed our own costumes. No one complained. We were all so dedicated.”

The group members often participate in dancing contests because they believe competition improves their movements.

They were recently invited to perform on the CCTV program “Dancing World,” and last year they were runners-up in the Minhang District Square Dance Contest.

“We like the accolades, but what we love more is the energy and passion dancing brings us,” said Luo.
