Derelict site to become new center for creativity
A two-decades-old factory complex in Qibao Town will be converted into a new creativity zone, local officials said.
The complex originally belonged to Les Enfants, a baby-products company.
The new zone will cover about 20,000 square meters and employ at least 2,000 people, according to Dobe China, developer of the project.
“Qibao is an excellent location because it is close to the Hongqiao area,” said Jia Bo, president of Dobe China. “We are also attracted by the traditional culture of the town.”
Dobe said the zone will be home to companies doing business in cultural arts and the Internet. Exhibitions, events and exchanges will be staged at the site.
Home to zones
Qibao is already home to many industrial zones, but this one will be different.
“We will establish a service center to provide advice on investment, brand promotion, legal issues and financial matters to companies in the zone,” said Wu Zehong, general manager of the project.
The accent will be on green. About 40 percent of the site will be planted with trees, lawn and shrubbery.
“We want to create a green, open space to ease the mental stress of people who sit at computers all day,” said Wu.
The current buildings, which are dilapidated, will be given a makeover of a black-and-white décor.
Terraces and roof gardens will complete the architecture, he said.
