Company with keen social conscience
Xianbao Household Electric Appliances Maintenance Co is expected to expand its charitable services from the Longbai community to the entire Minhang District this year.
The company has been involved in charity works in Longbai for 12 years.
Company founder Liu Xianbao, 41, was honored as one of “Minhang’s Lovely People” last year because of his community contributions.
“We are able to serve more people by forming links with neighborhood committees,” said Liu. “Every month we give free maintenance services to one community, and the committee helps us line up the residents in advance.”
For the past 12 years, the company’s maintenance fees have remained below prevailing rates. For customers 80 years and older, the company charges only for the cost of materials.
Liu hails from east China’s Anhui Province. He graduated from senior high school there but failed to make the cut to enter college. So he migrated to Shanghai 17 years ago and found a job as an air conditioner repairman.
After six years, Liu obtained his professional certification and opened his own company.
“I had been in many homes, and I knew that many families, especially seniors living along, couldn’t afford high maintenance fees,” said Liu. “So I decided I would put helping people before making money.”
His company now has 23 employees and has opened branches in the Gumei, Hongqiao and Qibao areas. Liu himself has received various community and district awards.
“I want our company to become a household name in Minhang so that people think of us first when they need maintenance services,” said Liu.
