Back to school, with new resources

The autumn semester kicked off on September 1, with 200,000 Minhang students returning to schools. The annual ritual sends a signal that things are returning to some semblance of normality after the coronavirus outbreak.

Health and safety still remain paramount. Face masks, body temperature checks and constant disinfection are part of the new school routine.

The start of a new school year also brings new resources to education.

Minhang No. 3 Middle School received a donation of over 700 books from Li Biguang, an aerospace scientist who wants to encourage children to be curious.

The Experimental School Affiliated to Minhang High School has introduced an artificial intelligence system in the canteen to deliver dishes with a mechanical arm and to utilize face recognition for payment.

In Meilong and Xinzhuang towns, local governments have dispatched four buses to take children to the newly opened Xinsong Middle School.

For Teachers’ Day on September 10, seven Minhang instructors were honored for their exemplary work. Among them were Han Xiuhua from Qiying Kindergarten, Qu Weihua from Minhang Experimental Primary School and Huang Yuehui from Qibao High School. So far 35 Minhang teachers have won such recognition.
