Accent on entertainment this holiday

THE Shanghai Tourism Festival and Shanghai Shopping Festival are back in town, and Minhang is pulling out all the stops to make its part of the gala annual events fun and memorable for visitors.

Hongmei Road Entertainment Street, also known as the “Foreigner’s Street,” is sponsoring a series of events featuring the cuisines and cultures of countries like Germany, Mexico and Greece. In addition to authentic food and beverages, ethnic music from the countries will fill the air. The events will last through the end of October.

Meanwhile, business areas in the district will provide some extraordinary shopping attractions for customers.

Shopping malls will be offering an array of discounts on merchandise and also will hold special exhibitions that diehard shoppers won’t want to miss.

A traditional Chinese cartoon exhibition will be held at the CapitaMall Qibao later this month. The original drawings of classic Chinese animations will include the famous “Handshaking Between the Monkey King and Astro Boy.” Its co-creators are Yan Dingxian, who was also the moving force behind the animation movie “Havoc in Heaven,” and Osamu Tezuka, creator of “Astro Boy.”

The Shanghai Skymall will hold a French Culture Festival beginning this week. It will include a photography exhibition held to honor the 80th anniversary of Studio Harcourt Paris. A French children’s choir will also perform in the mall.
