Zone developing Shanghai’s future

SHANGHAI Zhangjiang High-Tech Park Jiading Zone, now 25 times its original size, has grown into an industrial park with 18 sub-zones. Established in 1994, it aims to foster four key sectors — new energy vehicles, semiconductor and circuit manufacturing, high-end medical equipment and smart manufacturing.

The zone reported an industrial output totaling 210 billion yuan (US$31.9 billion) in 2015, including 17.5 billion yuan of tax revenue.

Last year, the zone was recognized as the only suburban industrial park that focuses on building Shanghai into a technological innovation center.

As a model zone for developing new emerging industries, the zone has launched 11 key projects in various areas to further push forward economic development and help enterprises expand overseas.

To that end, special funds of 260 million yuan will be allocated at a ratio of 1:1 by district and city governments to support the development of enterprises in the zone.

“At the moment, the signing of proposals and contracts has completed. The first round of supporting funds will be distributed soon,” said Rao Yunfeng, head of the zone’s management department.

Located in the zone, the newly opened Shanghai Auto Innovation Park has attracted many domestic and overseas car makers to relocate to its site of 120,000 square meters. With a floor area of 200,000 square meters, the park has drawn investment totaling 1.5 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, public platforms such as 3D printing and software testing facilities in local universities, institutes and companies will be accessible by enterprises in the park.

Every year, Jiading Zone assists companies to apply for financial support from district and city governments.

Between 2013 and 2015, the companies received a total of 800 million yuan.
