Water-purifying roads and self-cleaning towers
NEW technologies are being widely adopted in the building and maintenance of roads and bridges in Jiading, according to the district construction department.
As well as their usual business of carrying vehicles, some roads can now purify water. In green areas along Tianzhu Road in Jiading New Town, lines of containers catch rain, which flows into filtering layers made up of gravel and coarse sand.
After purifying, the water enters the ground and becomes part of the underground water system. Filtration helps remove heavy metals and petroleum pollutants, improving underground water quality, which is good for the growth of plants, say officials.
Meanwhile, a 111-meter tall, 1048-ton tower was last month installed on the new bridge over the Wenzaobang River in Nanxiang. To make cleaning easier and reduce costs, constructors used a nanometer self-cleaning paint on the steel tower.
The technology saves manpower and greatly increases resistance to corrosion and aging, said officials.
