JIADING Party Secretary Ma Chunlei met Michio Fujimoto recently and expressed gratitude for his contribution to Sino-Japanese friendship in the past 30 years. Fujimoto visited Jiading for the first time in 1987 and a decade later he planted the first wisteria tree in the district. Since then, it has become a symbol of Jiading. At Jiading Wisteria Park, one of the only three wisteria parks in the world, there are more than 100 wisteria trees of 28 varieties. The Japanese-style wisteria park opened in 2000 to celebrate Jiading's friendly cooperation with Wake Town of Okayama Prefecture in Japan. Fujimoto,
Wake Town leader between 1978 and 2002, has visited Jiading almost every year since the opening of Jiading Wisteria Park.
