New base understands technology
AT the beginning of the year, the Shanghai National Technology Transfer Center at the China Academy of Sciences established an industrial base in Jiading, with academic and financial support from the academy, the Jiading district government and social investment organizations.
Usually, researchers focus on technological achievements while entrepreneurs are concentrated on developing products to meet demand.
“What we do is to understand the company’s needs, analyze what technologies and crafts are required and decide who will take the responsibility for that part,” scientist Jiang Junxiang said.
Now an engineer at Shanghai National Technology Transfer Center, Jiang was deputy mayor of Cixi in Ningbo in charge of technology development. The experience provided him with a comprehensive understanding of both technology and the market. “Once both parties understand each other, we have the foundation for technology transfer.”
The center provides a public service platform for technology testing and R&D services.
A batch of key programs is now underway in the center. Such a system links equipment of different labs, craft skills and researchers.
The Jiading base has attracted more than 100 programs, covering a wide range of areas including new energy and new materials.
The establishment of a China-South Korea high-tech base is under negotiation.
“The process of technology transfer is actually a commercial process,” said Wang Guoping, executive deputy director of the center. The way from a single technology to a product involves many areas, such as technology integration, intellectual property rights and team motivation.
The Jiading district government has already signed an agreement with the center to set up a fund to launch programs that may be less attractive to social companies.
