New aged care hub opens for a trial run
The first phase of Jiading No. 1 Social Welfare Home was given a test run on November 5.
Jiading aims to become a pioneer in developing social welfare services and government departments should continue to build the network for seniors, making the social welfare home an influential brand, sai Gao Yun, Jiading’s deputy Party Secretary.
The home is a key long-term project in Jiading with construction planning starting as early as July 2011.
The first phase consists of three six-story buildings and facilities over 25,000 square meters.
It includes a residential area for mentally and physically disabled seniors and other medically-dependant seniors. It also has recovery areas, comprehensive service areas and management areas. The home provides 498 beds.
The project’s second phase has already started, also involving a six-story building of 9,838 square meters with the capacity for 280 beds. After completion, the social welfare home will have a total of 778 beds.
By the end of this year, Jiading will have more than 180,000 seniors aged over 60, accounting for more than 30 percent of the total number of permanent residents in the district.
By 2020, the number is expected to exceed 200,000, presenting a even bigger challenge and opportunity for social welfare services.
Jiading plans by then to have 8,500 senior care service beds in all towns and villages. By 2030, the number of beds will reach 10,500.
