A river runs through it with ecological area set to open

An ecological park has been set up on the west bank of Hengli River near the Liuyun Park on the east bank. The park, part of 1.9-kilometer Hengli Culture and Ecological Belt, is expected to open to the public next month.

Hengli River is more than 20 kilometers long and runs across Jiading District from north to south. It is known as Jiading’s mother river.

Before 2015, a 3.5-kilometer section in Nanxiang Town was dilapidated and the river bed was raised due to sedimentation and the collapse of its banks.

Renovation project

Since 2015, Jiading has carried out comprehensive renovation of the banks, repairing the bank walls and dredging more than 122,000 cubic meters of sand from the river bed.

After renovation, the water quality, environment, flood control measures and water logging capabilities have been raised significantly.

Around 2015, the factory mills and residents moved out of the belt where the ecological park is located between the river and Zhennan Road which extends around 1.9 kilometers long and 30 to 50 meters wide.

The Nanxiang township authority decided to set up the landscape corridor along the river, connecting with Guyi Garden and Yunxiang Temple, which is a belt rich of history and the water town scenery of the southern Yangtze Delta region.

“The corridor is set to be very valuable for Nanxiang in terms of ecological and social benefit,” a Nanxiang official said.

Landscape corridor

Along Hengli River, a 4-kilometer circular walking route has been set up for residents.

Several pavilions and bridges as well as music fountains have been completed so far.

Landscape lighting has also been set up along Hengli River in Nanxiang.

The river has been decorated with lanterns in the shape of flowers and dragon boats in the middle of it.

In a few months, the scenery with lighting at night is set to attract visitors with its distinctive cultural characteristics. In addition, a mist-spraying system has been set up to make it more comfortable in the heat.
