Money for water

The Qiandao Lake water distribution project, the largest water conservation project under construction in Zhejiang Province, has secured investment of 3.92 billion yuan as of the end of July — 40 percent of its target.

By the end of June 2019, Qiandao Lake, the second water source for Hangzhou, is expected to provide water to 8 million people who live in urban Hangzhou and nearby areas.

“For a very long time, Hangzhou has had only one water source, the Qiantang River. Water from the river downstream is likely to be polluted,” said an official from the provincial water affairs department.

“When the Qiaodao Lake water project finishes, we’ll be able to get water from multiple places.”

Now workers are working overtime to let Hangzhou citizens get the Qiandao Lake water even sooner.

By the end of July, the main tunnel had been excavated 93.6 kilometers — 71 percent of the project.
