Letv to launch original online video series this year

CHINESE Internet company Letv announced its new production and broadcasting plans for video streaming on Wednesday.

Letv officials said a batch of original online series in various genres will be produced and released this year. Many of them are adapted from online fictions and video games such as “Translator” and “Xuanyuan Sword.”

Jiang Wei, whose credits include the popular spy thriller series “Lurk,” will present his new production “The Hunting Ground” on Letv in summer.

Popular writer and director Guo Jingming is also collaborating with Letv on the fantasy film “Legend of Ravaging Dynasties.” The film with lavish scenes and stunning visuals is China’s first CG live-action blockbuster. It will be released in October.

The Internet giant has also acquired the copyrights of BBC’s historical series “War and Peace” and American series “Into The Badlands,” which is based on the classic Chinese story of “Journey to the West.”

An array of Chinese entertainment celebrities who made big achievements and innovations in art over the year were honored at a gala on Wednesday. Among them were veteran Hong Kong filmmaker Tsui Hark, rising director Chen Sicheng and pop idol Li Yuchun.
