Shandong plant to boost firm’s capacity

HERAEUS, a German precious metals group, yesterday inaugurated a 30 million yuan (US$4.7 million) new production site in Shandong Province to expand its capacity in electronic and semiconductor manufacturing.

The new plant will be built in Zhaoyuan, an area with rich gold deposits.

It is also where Heraeus had set up a joint venture in 1995 to produce precious metal products like boding wire, evaporating gold, palladium metal and weld metal powder.

Heraeus (Zhaoyuan) Precious Metal Materials Co was the first Sino-foreign joint venture in China’s gold processing industry, and is the largest semiconductor bonding wire maker in China.

Jan Rinnert, chairman of the board of management at Heraeus, told Shanghai Daily yesterday that apart from its precious metals business, the company would seek opportunities in the renewable energy and e-mobility sectors in China.

In October 2014, the company opened its China headquarters in Shanghai to provide regional services to 20 Heraeus companies in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
