Xiaomi unveils 3 low-priced phones

XIAOMI Corp yesterday launched three new products which cost under 1,000 yuan (US$156) each to compete with rivals such as Huawei and Lenovo in the domestic market.

Beijing-based Xiaomi said it would cooperate with Intel, Microsoft and Shanghai-based The9 to offer consumers high-quality devices and entertainment content at reasonable prices.

“It’s a competitive, very competitive market,” said Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s chief executive.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3, one of the three products launched yesterday, features a full metal design, fingerprint recognition and improved battery capacity. Its price will start at 899 yuan. The new model comes on the heels of Xiaomi selling 6.09 million RedMi Note 2 models within 100 days since its debut in August which made it the most popular smartphone model in China, Lei said.

The other new products are the next-generation tablet computer, which is priced from 999 yuan, equipped with Intel chip and supports Windows 10, and a new small air purifier. The tablet computer has the same resolution and definition as Apple’s iPad.
