Tencent's WeChat offers personalized, real-world postcards in diversifying move
Tencent's popular online chatting software WeChat is taking a step to extend its service into the offline realm, teaming up with the Guangzhou Postal Service to allow WeChat users to customize postcards.
Users can complete the DIY process through an online service account on WeChat and get the postcards delivered to destinations all over China. The postal cost can be paid via the online payment service embedded in WeChat.
More than 20 templates are now available for WeChat users.
WeChat has been pushing its payment service into a number of offline sectors such as taxi-hailing applications and department stores. It has also been offering transaction service for several wealth-management products provided by mutual fund management companies.
Like a number of Internet giants such as Alibaba and Baidu, Tencent is seeking to diversify its offerings by combining its online capabilities with offline sectors.
