Lenovo Tech World to show off latest tech

SMART shoes detecting sports tracks and effects, glasses displaying virtual scenes and watches with projection features: Lenovo Group Ltd showcased concept products and latest technologies in the Lenovo Tech World as the world’s biggest personal computer maker tries to shake off the image as a traditional PC maker and attract more young consumers with fancy gadgets and solutions.

Lenovo, which sold 148 million devices globally in the past year ended on March 31, aims to offer users combined services covering devices, software and Internet connection during the event held in Beijing today. It represented a step to transform itself from a hardware maker to a one-stop service provider, said Chairman Yang Yuanqing.

It’s the first time for Lenovo to talk about future tech roads and concept products besides talking about sales and profit.

Chief executives of top IT giants from Microsoft Corp, Intel Corp and Baidu Inc and actress Fan Bingbing and pianist Lang Lang attended the tech fair, which was held in Beijing today.

Motorola Mobility, now a subsidiary of Lenovo after a US$290 million acquisition deal in 2014, kicks off customized services today to allow users choose design of Moto X phones on color and back materials, a measure to attract young and fashion consumers.

Lenovo’s future wearable computing products will feature wireless connection, big data analysis, machine learning and cloud services, through cooperation with partners like Microsoft, Intel and Baidu.

For example, the shoes can display facial emotions during the sports, with smile expressions for good exercise results.
