AGCO partners Alibaba to sell to rural villages

AGCO, a global manufacturer and distributor of agriculture equipment, said it has partnered with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba to extend its reach into China’s remote rural areas to boost sales and improve after-sales service.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed yesterday, AGCO products will be marketed through cun.taobao.com, an Alibaba platform targeting rural villagers.

United States-based AGCO will also optimize after-sales service and technology support for Chinese users through Alibaba’s operation centers that have been set up in 100 counties across China.

“Alibaba’s vast penetration in China’s countryside will help us to remove logistics and information barriers in rural areas,” Fred Yang, managing director of AGCO China, said at the MOU signing ceremony in Shanghai.

AGCO and Alibaba will also cooperate in cloud computing and big data to jointly develop the agriculture sector in China. They’re also eying future cooperation in rural finance.
