Westpac appoints general manager for Shanghai branch

AUSTRALIA-BASED Westpac Banking Corp said it has appointed June Fu as General Manager of its Shanghai branch in a bid to strengthen the local leadership team.

Fu was also appointed head of multinational corporations for Westpac on China’s mainland. Based in Shanghai, she will be responsible for management of the branch and focus on growing the lender’s business franchise on the mainland. She will report to the head of China’s mainland and Hong Kong Branch Andrew Whitford.

Westpac is not locally incorporated in China, but has branches in Shanghai and Beijing.

The Australian lender received the regulatory approval earlier in March to open a sub-branch in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone. The preparation work is led by Raymond Wang, head of Renminbi capability at Westpac for China. The new outlet is expected to open later this year.
