Shanghai to help Macau-based Portuguese banks to expand in China

THE Shanghai Financial Services Office and the Monetary Authority of Macau held a promotion seminar today in Shanghai to assist Macau-based Portuguese banks’ expansion on China’s mainland.

Over 150 representatives from local financial institutions and trading companies attended the seminar.

Director of the Shanghai Financial Services Office Zheng Yang said: “As economic and trading exchanges become more frequent between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, Macau will play an increasing role as the important platform for economic, trading and financial cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.”

“The financial services office together with the Monetary Authority of Macau will propel information exchange and business cooperation among financial institutions in the two cities, in a bid to promote business development between Chinese companies and trading companies from Portuguese-speaking countries,” he added.

Senior executives from leading Protuguese banks Banco Nacional Ultramarino, Banco Espírito Santo, Banco Comercial Português and Banco Português de Investimento spoke at the seminar and introduced their worldwide operations.
