Usage of electricity rises 1.9% in April
CHINA’S electricity consumption, a barometer of economic activity, increased 1.9 percent year on year in April to 456.9 billion kilowatt-hours, according to figures released yesterday by the National Energy Administration.
Power consumption in the first four months rose 2.9 percent from a year earlier to 1.81 trillion kWh, it said.
Electricity use in the service sector rose 10 percent in the first four months, while the industrial and agricultural sector saws increases of 9.1 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively, the administration said.
The different rates reflected the changes in China’s economic structure, as power use in the service sector grew faster than the industrial sector.
