SALES at major shopping malls in Shanghai rose 13.2 percent year on year in the first three days of the city’s annual shopping festival as spending on services and at night jumped, organizers said yesterday.

Sales in the same period last year increased 11.8 percent.

A breakdown of the growth showed retail sales rose 8.9 percent, spending in restaurants added 12.9 percent, while spending on other services, including entertainment, surged 32.4 percent, the Shanghai Commission of Commerce said. Sales during night hours rose 19 percent as malls extended their business hours to 11pm.
