McDonald’s beefs up menus around China

MCDONALD’S is gradually restoring more items to its menu after the fast-food chain ended a relationship with one of its biggest suppliers over a food safety scandal.
McDonald's China said it's working closely with suppliers to ensure safe ingredients in all its restaurants while also strengthening quality assurance measures, according to an e-mailed statement today.
It said menu choices vary in different regions of the country although Shanghai customers will be able to order a Big Mac, fish burgers and spicy chicken fillet burgers.
The company said it is now sourcing meat from McKey Food Services Ltd, a Shenzhen unit of Philadelphia-based Keystone Foods.
Last month, McDonald’s supplier Shanghai Husi Food Co was embroiled in a food safety scandal after a television report said the company had been mixing expired and fresh meat.
McDonald's and Yum Brands Inc, which owns KFC and Pizza Hut, both terminated their sourcing relationships with Shanghai Husi, a subsidiary of US-based OSI Group.
