Debut of Huawei’s 2-in-1 notebook computers

Huawei Technologies will start selling new 2-in-1 notebook computers next week in China, the first of its kind in Huawei’s product portfolio.

The release of Huawei Matebook models represents its penetration into the personal computer market and the next step for the telecommunications equipment maker’s expansion in the consumer market after the smartphone business success.

Huawei Notebook, with super mobility, smart keyboard, Intel chip and Microsoft’s Windows 10, will accept online pre-orders today and start selling next Tuesday. The prices are between 4,988 yuan (US$4,988) and 9,688 yuan in China, similar with similar products like Apple’s iPad Pro and Microsoft’s Surface.

The new product enriches the portfolio of Huawei and helps people get connected by well-designed devices with both super mobility and strong productivity features, covering both entertainment and business scenes, Huawei said.

The 2-in-1 computer is one of the fastest growing sectors in the whole PC market, which faces slowdown demand and declined sales industry wide, analysts said.

Lenovo, the world’s biggest PC maker, yesterday posted a net loss of US$128 million in the year ended on March 31, its first annual loss in the six years.
