Alibaba’s O2O arm becomes more down to earth
Alibaba's online to offline service platform Koubei said it will drive collaboration with more service providers and financial institutions to help offline merchants growth their business.
Zhang Feng, general manager of Koubei in Shanghai, said merchants that use its online marketing platform will be free of charge in the next three years as major bid from the company to empower growth for offline merchants.
Koubei, which is a joint venture between Alibaba Group and its financial affiliate Ant Financial, will leverage its payment and data analysis capabilities to help merchants such as restaurants, supermarkets and beauty salons to better target both existing and potential customers.
It will introduce insurance companies as its collaborator to launch customer protection programs, as well as financial services for cash-tight small business owners.
More than 800,000 merchants around the country are working with the platform right now, according to Koubei.
Internet giants including Baidu and Tencent are investing heavily to promote online to offline business as a major growth potential in the future.
